Due the fact they are in a gated development often with guards at the entrance, it gives them a false sense of safety. At times there will be a flurry of gardeners, pool cleaners, maids and general contractors, all coming and going all over the place. In this situation it’s really difficult to keep tabs on everyone. We believe that 95% of all break-ins stem from some kind of inside knowledge, but with so many people being at the scene it’s virtually impossible to point the finger at anyone. Some kind of internal alarm system is your best defense. If a would-be thief is aware that you have a system in place they are likely to go elsewhere rather than drawing attention to themselves that could lead to capture.

Be mindful of your doors and windows, make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked at night, its surprising the number of people who do not pay attention to the simple task of locking all windows and doors. When building a property it really does pay to find a good supplier of high quality doors and windows that have been designed with security in mind. Unfortunately due to cost, many opt for the more flimsy aluminum products available here in Thailand. Many of these offer no protection whatsoever and can simply be opened with a decent screwdriver.
